[How To] Linux / UNIX Kernel Version

The following tutorial explains how one can find out the Kernel version and other information about your Linux / Unix box.
The uname command comes handy to find out version specific information for the Kernel. Following are some of the important options available with uname command.

$ uname -s #displays information about the operating system

$ uname -r #displays the release version of the Kernel

$ uname -v #displays operating system version.

$ uname -a #displays all the information about the Kernel
